I know nothing about modern private merc
forces, but historical ones have shown a
preference for not getting paid instead
of fighting any stronger forces.
On the other had, a DIY approach, rather
than a market solution, provides you with
solutions to two problems:
- you will have defensive force available,
even under adverse conditions.
- you will have offensive force available
for adverse possession as a means to
acquiring clean title to your island.
I hope you've found a better alternative.
(Anyone have estimates for the costs of
the forces required to occupy or defend
various types of islands? Would a check
against land prices give us an estimate
for the value of sovereignty?)
