Ouch. But I heard a better one:

At a now-crashed local (to Seattle) high-flyer, a few of
the folks got enamored with using margin to buy goodies
without having to touch their (then) rapidly-appreciating
stock.

One guy bought a private island, and 19 cars.

This was when the stock was in the $90s. Its now $2.75.

He owes his broker $20M.

Oops.

These were my investment tips at the beginning of last
year. The first is where it started. I don't feel
so bad as it was only funny money. Some of my friends had
$300k portfolios which are now worth about $2500.

Right now, I'd buy Sun, Sony, Broadcom, Nokia. That's
about as safe as you can get in the tech sector.
