Cooperative Effort With Rambus Results In Production Release of Version 1.0
SO-RIMM Design

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Kingston(R) Technology
Company, Inc., the world's largest independent memory manufacturer, today
announced it is shipping samples of the industry's first validated version
1.0 RDRAM(R)-based SO-RIMM modules in 64MB and 128MB, ECC and non-ECC
densities.

Kingston's SO-RIMM modules were validated utilizing a two-step process. They
first passed the electrical validation process defined by Rambus Inc., which
ensures that the SO-RIMM modules meet the impedance, forward and backward
cross-talk, and propagation delay specifications.

The next validation step involves system validation, which tests the
functionality of the SO-RIMM modules at 800MHz in a system platform. System
validation testing ensures that the SO-RIMM modules meet the same standards
for interoperability and system performance as RIMM modules.

Kingston, Rambus and Advanced Validation Labs(R) Inc. (AVL) engineers teamed
up to set up a special system validation process for SO-RIMMs, based upon the
already-proven RIMM module system validation process. This three-company
joint effort resulted in Rambus' industry-wide release of version 1.0 of the
SO-RIMM module design.

"The SO-RIMM module design release for high volume manufacturing required the
close cooperation of three companies with expertise in high-speed module
design, advanced chip-scale package (CSP) module manufacturing, and testing
on ATE and system platforms," said Steve Chen, vice president Partner and OEM
Marketing for Rambus Inc. (Nasdaq: RMBS). "Our
long standing relationship with Kingston and AVL clearly made this possible
and the industry will benefit from their expertise."

"Kingston has worked with Rambus since 1997, and our many joint projects have
helped Kingston evolve into a company with strong engineering and testing
expertise on high-speed memory technologies such as Rambus," said Dr. Ramon
Co, vice president, Technology and Test Engineering Division, Kingston.

"The communications and networking market requires robust and proven designs
for their long product lifecycles," added Larry Ho, director, technical labs,
Advanced Validation Labs. "AVL's system validation tests included special
tests to verify the functionality of the SO-RIMM modules with different power
supply and temperature conditions."

Kingston said that AVL will also provide Kingston's OEM customers with
special SO-RIMM testing services on their specific networking and
communications product platforms.
