Some of those carpetbaggers come from people that have already made their
money from companies that sold software the old fashioned way. To the
extent OSS is successful, the supply of those people will wither away.

Others are rent seekers. The OSS market increases the market for guru's,
which just happen to be the people contributing to the OSS market.

Finally, there is fashion. It is fashionable. Whether it will continue in
fashion and attract new people at a sustainable rate is still an open
question. Answer uncertain, check back in 10 years.

Here's the deal, we've been inundated by carpetbaggers. Even some people who
should have known better became carpetbaggers. Leaving the rest of us with a
mess to clean up.
