I read a time-travel story ten or twenty years ago where time turned out to
not be continuous, and so every jump the protagonist took got further and
further away from our reality, until at the end of the story, the earth was
dominated by amoeba-like things, headed by a ruling body known as "the five
who spiral".
Does this sound familiar to anyone at all?????
