a hole in e-commerce: theft?

First there were mainframes, then the Wintel world exploded with a
proliferation of desktop personal computers. Now, the pendulum has swung
back with the move to the Internet: consolidation of web and commerce
servers into discrete and very large Oracle databases and very powerful
Sun hardware server computers.

Of the many obstacles facing e-commerce (privacy, transaction security,
etc.), another one appears to be theft. eToys consolidated its inventory
at a distribution center, much like Amazon.com and others do. They got
clipped by thieves
