The Beastie Boys are taking a stand for Real Networks' powerful Internet
music competitor Microsoft. The band announced yesterday that it would make
three unreleased songs available for download at www.launch.com through
Windows Media Technology. (Free software for this one, for those with space
left on their hard drive, is at www.windows.com.) Though the songs are free,
every time one is downloaded (up to the millionth customer), the Beastie
Boys and Launch.com will donate one dollar to two Kosovo relief charities,
CARE and Madre. Microsoft will match these donations with contributions to
other relief organizations.
