Lots of interesting stuff under http://www.singinst.org/beyond.html ...

I'm rooting for a warm, fuzzy singularity, but I don't know if I can
swallow the mouthful that is "Singularitarian".

# We'll teach the seed AI how to think, how to understand code, how to
# redesign itself, and hopefully give it a personal philosophy that
# involves being friendly to humanity.
(from http://singinst.org/eliezer.html )

I think the key word is "hopefully".

# You will need:
#
# * Advanced neuroimaging equipment (the current best is an fMRI).
# * A neurosurgical team.
# * Off-the-shelf hardware for brain stimulation.
# * Disposable chimpanzees.
# * Adult research subjects with the skill you want to Specialize on.
# * Research subjects who are young enough to have high brain
# plasticity (i.e. prepubescent) but old enough to give informed
# consent. (A neat trick discussed in a separate article, The Ethics
# of Cognitive Engineering.)
# * A hidden lab in a foreign country and extremely discreet personnel.
(from http://www.singinst.org/algernon.html )

Will it help to hide the lab inside a volcano?
