[Music Bits] Pansy Division.

Since Byars often accuses my musical tastes of skewing toward U.S.
mainstream garbage, I figured I'd break with tradition and recommend
Pansy Division, a militant homosexual punk rock band. Well, not
militant, really: they just like to have fun wearing homosexuality on
their sleeves. The music is fast and furious, tending toward melodious
punk pop.

I have the album "Deflowered"

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000000FHV/forkRecommendedr/

and it's pretty good. Their new album "Absurd Pop song Romance" comes
out September 8

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000009SEU/forkRecommendedr/

so I'll have to wait till then to review it. If you get a chance to see
them live... well, they're raunchy and outrageous. Good fun. :)

Update on the new albums by Liz Phair,

They Might Be Giants,

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000009NTL/forkRecommendedr/

and Heather Nova

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000007NAH/forkRecommendedr/

is that I (surprise) like them all. They Might Be Giants' "Severe Tire
Damage" is a fun little live album. I thought since I had most of their
albums I wouldn't care for it too much, but much like Moxy Fruvous'
"Live Noise"

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000006PCW/forkRecommendedr/

, there's enough new bits in there for the fans that it's worth having.

Liz Phair and Heather Nova are two more women in Dan Kohn's "angry young
female" genre, and both of them deliver albums with lots of delicate
personal effects after taking a few years' hiatus. I actually like the
Heather Nova album better at this point -- the songs are more noticeably
hummable, to be honest -- but all Liz Phair albums take 10 or 20 listens
before you get addicted to them. I'll be enjoying these two albums for
many months to come.

And, in September, I'll be getting that new Pansy Division album...

I would swallow my pride, I would choke on the rhines, but the lack
thereof would leave me empty inside. I would swallow my doubt, turn it
inside out, find nothing but faith in nothing. Want to put my tender
heart in a blender, watch it spin round to a beautiful oblivion.
Rendezvous then I'm through with you.
