This definitely happens. To at least a small extent it might be useful: few
people might delve into areas that have such endless depth if they knew ahead
of time what was required. (Medicine, programming/compsci, electronics,
parenthood.)

Of course "Chronic Correctness" implies that you actually have been correct a
few times to prove (to yourself at least) that you know what you're talking
about.
