One for the conspiracy buffs...

If you've looked at Hotwired today, you know that John Gilmore was
recently arrested at San Francisco's airport for refusing to turn on
his laptop or show ID when requested to do so by the cops. He ran
into the new airport security measures recommended by the Gore
commission, which have received a lot of press attention lately.

However, there's similar stuff going on that doesn't seem to be as
well-publicized. Walking by a mailbox this morning, I noticed a
sticker on it which said that due to "new security provisions", or
some such phrase, mail of certain characteristics --- IIRC, any
stamped mail over 16 oz., or anything addressed to (certain divisions
of?) the armed forces --- cannot be placed in a mailbox, and *must* be
presented in person at a post office.

I'm not in post offices much, but it's tempting to do that just to
look around for cameras, and see if they ask for ID...
