The first (rough) public draft of my paper on agents can be accessed on the
following page:

It includes the section on the technical etymology of agents and proxies,
and tries to explain concepts of vertical and lateral abstraction in
networking for non-techies -- more challenging AND fun than I thought! It
also peripherally criticizes current legal efforts that focus on enabling
services to exercise the necessary formalities for binding users to
agreements that the users cannot possibly understand.

Comments are welcome. I will probably submit whatever version I have on
Friday to the IASTED's LawTech '99 -- though I fear it may be too techie,
but that is the whole point....
