Secure shopping on the Internet took another major step forward as
Mellon Bank and the U.S. Treasury's Financial Management Services
announced Thursday that they will begin a U.S.-based electronic
commerce initiative using the Secure Electronic Transaction protocol.
Beginning in August, a group of Mellon and FMS employees will begin
the initial phase of the implementation. Employees will access the
websites of two Federal agencies to securely purchase merchandise
using software developed by IBM. The second phase of the
implementation is expected to begin in September. (PR Newswire) See
