math and reality

i would have to back tom here. math is a model of reality, a
super-perfect mirror that reflects our world with greater clarity than
it could ever actually have.

what good is a mirror that sits unused un a closet, for fear of the
harsh light that gives it its beauty? what good are mathematical
constructs if we do not attempt to apply them to life in ways that
they were never meant to. they were originally made to model systems we
can grasp and see with our minds eye. let us use them to give us
insight into matters we can not.
