Not quite, with a number of IDE host adaptors an array of fast EIDE
drives (10 krpm IBM drives, soft RAID, PVFS over channel-bonded
FastEthernet) reaches the performance of a big SCSI server box for a
fraction of the price. Once we've got PVFS (on top of XFS) ported to
VIA things will really start to get interesting.

But I agree, as long as you're not concerned about reliability (as in
serving mp3's), you can go for the cheapest of the cheapest EIDE.
