In what has become a much bigger problem than expected, eBay has now been
down for over 12 hours. It also experienced failures on Wednesday night.

This appears to be its biggers failure to date. Not surprisingly, it's
stock, while having fallen, doesn't seem to have taken as big effect as I
believe is warrented for such a situation. I think it is partially due to
the fact that many eBay stockholders don't even visit the site.

eBay's online auction site remains down after crash
PALO ALTO, Calif., June 11 (Reuters) - The online auction site eBay
(Nasdaq:EBAY - news) Friday was working to restore service to its system
after a crash Thursday evening.

Company officials had no immediate comment on the cause or the extent of
the damage. But in a series of messages posted on its site (www.eBay.com),
eBay said it was having difficulties with its database server which were
proving more difficult to correct than it had at first expected.

``We realize how long this process takes and wish for all the world we
could hasten it,'' one posting said.

The company has a policy of extending auctions that are interrupted by a
system crash.

On Friday morning it said on its site that its best estimate was that
service would be restored by 2:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time
1700EDT/2100GMT.
