Errrrrrmmmm... Richard Rhodes won the National Book Award for "The
Making of the Atomic Bomb". It's an excellent book; his sequel, Dark
Sun, (which focuses in about equal parts on espionage, the Soviet bomb
project, American H-bomb development, and the Oppenheimer affair) is
also very, very good.
