I thought the same thing myself.

I won't go ahead and point out the obvious parallel of a pair of
powerful countries unilaterally (bilaterally?) attacking a weak country
against the wishes of the international community, because it doesn't
really go very far. After all, Poland wasn't under League-of-Nation
supervision and sanctions that destroyed the country.
