I enjoy Gleick's writing (I've read Chaos and Genius, and particularly
enjoyed the latter). I've also read the article you referenced, which I
think of as the "800 lb. Gorilla" article because that's the form in which
I've read it (photocopied and posted on someone's office door). I hadn't
realized that it was the same author.

The 800 lb. Gorilla article is rather frustrating because it contains such a
mix of insight and misinformation. He mixes facts with questionable
extrapolation of those facts, and then uses rather biased sources (Reback,
Schmidt, a "senior executive of a competing software company") to back these
questionable extrapolations.
