Interactive privacy goals

The Coalition for Advertising Supported Information & Entertainment (CASIE)
Monday announced goals for privacy in marketing on interactive media. "In a
sense this is a warning" to advertisers and marketers, said Judy Black, senior
partner-new media technologies for Bozell Worldwide and a member of CASIE's
Privacy Task Force. "But we think this has come out consumer-friendly." The
five goals: 1) Educating the consumer about ways electronic marketing can
provide relevant or time-saving information; 2) marketers identifying
themselves to consumers when using electronic communications; 3) marketers
using personal information gathered to serve customer needs; 4) marketers
informing consumers if personal information provided will be shared with
others and honoring consumer requests to withhold that information; 5)
marketers allowing consumers the right to see summaries of personal
information on file and to correct or withdraw parts of that file.
