HP names Goldstein Internet technology officer

By _Maria Seminerio_

As IT companies create more Internet tools and applications, many of them are
also creating new executive positions to drive that development.
Hewlett-Packard Co. today announced that Ira Goldstein, former chief scientist
at the Open Group Research Institute, has been named to the new position of
Internet technology officer.

Goldstein, a former Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor and
one-time researcher at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, has been charged
with formulating HP's Internet technology architecture together with the
company's Systems Technology Group and its workstation, server and middleware
units.

The new post also calls for Goldstein to focus on developing HP's Internet
technology strategy for enterprise customers, company officials said.

HP will be familiar territory for Goldstein, who previously served as
research and development manager for the company's now-defunct Technical
Systems Sector, where he researched artificial intelligence, computer
languages and operating systems.
