Yeah, I heard the MacOS-X rumor as well, MacTel was just a nickname,
not the suggested product.

I was pretty annoyed at first, given the weaknesses of the Mac brand
name outside the Apple faithful, plus the plan to NOT use the same name
for non-Mac hardware, which seemed likely to create confusion.

However, I have decided that MacOS-X is redeemable. It's certainly better
than just calling it MacOS 8! The best part, I realized, is that once can
extract the "Mac" part and just call it OS-X (as in, OpenStep eXtended).
This allows the possibility of WIndows OS-X, Solaris OS-X, etc.
Not clear whether they'll call Rhapsody Intel MacOS-X or not.

By the way, I am of the opinion that this rumour is true, given the
politics and mindset of the Apple people. Given the presence of
non-Apple OSes for the PowerPC (Be, Linux, etc.) maybe it is important
that people realize the new OS is from the same people as the Mac. I just
hope they don't weigh it down with too much baggage....
