They're just pushing a bunch of sand from one pile to another.
At least there's a standard for documenting procedural wires -- man pages.
This is where AppleScript fell down. Too many combinations to understand and
no easy way of enumerating them for programmers. The procedural interface,
while boring, is predictable and its pros and cons well understood.
BTW, what a relief to be able to make blanket statements about AppleScript
without getting flamed! ;->
