Hmm, maybe there will be a market for Monster-Segways, or SUS Suburban
Utility Segways, with huge tires and small trailers behind them.
=20
Then, tracked segways with trailers, like mini Bv206s (
http://www.janes.com/defence/gallery/saifs_gallery/gallery2/0011.shtml)
=20
OMFG I can see it all now.=20

perhaps the real market for IT is in countries where=20
a)the weather is mostly cooperating=20
b)availability of automobile is low=20
c)bicycle is the preferred choice of transportation.=20

seeing how people prefer SUV over smaller compact cars,=20
I don't think IT will have a big market outside a few niche=20
areas in the US. you may see them in amusement parks or warehouses=20
but no city is bold enough to designate lanes and traffic codes=20
specifically to make IT safe and useable. cities with heavy traffic=20
congestion are also filled rich folks who don't mind paying $50k for=20
a parking spot. they ain't going to render their investment=20
worthless either.=20

This is from the Times article:=20

"Cars are great for going long distances," Kamen says,=20
"but it makes no sense at all for people in cities to=20
use a 4,000-lb. piece of metal to haul their 150-lb.=20
asses around town." In the future he envisions, cars=20
will be banished from urban centers to make room for=20
  millions of "empowered pedestrians"=20

The problem with this vision is not the lack of alternate=20
modes of transportation, but the political decision of=20
how to build out a city's transportation infrastructure.=20
Some cities have already banned automobiles from the=20
urban core. People get around fine, on foot, scooter,=20
skateboard, bicycle, and streetcar. Ginger is a neat=20
alternative, but not a revolutionary one. The revolution,=20
if there is to be one, will lie in the political arena=20
of how cities manage their transportation infrastructure.=20
