Well, there's Bubonic Plague for one thing, Ergot-infected rye bread
for another.  I wonder, do the Afghans, like the Saudis, have that 
same love of hookahs filled with opium-cured fruit?

Medieval Europe was, however, also a hotbed of romance; the concept
of romance first appears around this period.  Maybe the Taleban are
all just sexually frustrated.
