Looking for info on rankings of CS Undergraduate programs...

UofW has a good CS program. I don't think any of the other universities in
WA come as close in reputation, though I might not be able to bring them all
to mind right now.

Other than that, I know the reputations of quite a few of the CA schools.
Many are good: I've hired great people right out of Stanford and UCSC
(perhaps its reputation will increase?) and worked with good people fresh
out of Berkeley, CalTech, and Irvine.

Away from the west coast: MIT of course, CMU, Wesleyan. Rice comes to mind.
I'm sure I'm forgetting some; I've worked with some really good new-grads
and interns, but I can't remember where they all came from.

One thing I'd consider if I were 16 again or had a 16 year old to advise is
that the CS program isn't the be-all and end-all of a school. What about a
backup plan? Is there a good program in some other discipline that
interests him, in case he decides to transfer out of CS? Even without
needing a backup plan, what about having good elective courses available?
Perhaps the "best" CS department isn't worth having poor choices in other
areas. Recall that the entire student body has an effect on the CS
department to a certain degree.

Finally, do you look on college as a way to get a trade degree, or a way to
get an education?
