adam, move to the south.  everyone smiles inanely at one another and we all call each other "sugar" and "honey" (especially cashiers).  if that doesn't put cream in your coffee every day, nothing will.

even our insults have a forgiving parenthetical: "he's a fucking tightwad, bless his heart," is an example.
