Anyone who's watched Fortune's cousin, CNN, for the last few weeks has, no
doubt, witnessed Mr. Colvin hawking his benefit conference (see below). That
an invitation has been extended to me, a barnacle on the bow - no, on the
STERN - of the ship grounded on the sandbar of recession, suggests that maybe
attendence is - how do i say this - LOW. Really low. Final-round-limbo low.

I'm dying to meet Jeff Immelt. Anyone else going? Greg, is there anything I
need to tell Mike Dell?

As a FORTUNE subscriber, you know that a special set of
responsibilities arises for businesses during turbulent times. Courage,
compassion, and creativity -- along with clear vision and focus -- are
required to keep companies and their people moving forward. Now is the
time to rise to the challenge. Livelihoods depend on it. (perhaps Mr.
Colvin's?)

That's why FORTUNE invites you to join America's top CEOs and Mayor
Rudolph Giuliani at "Leadership in Turbulent Times*," a benefit
conference, to be held November 7 and 8 in New York City. This not-for-
profit event will address the extraordinary new challenges facing
senior executives and their teams in the aftermath of September 11. All
registration fees will be donated to the American Red Cross.
We would like to offer FORTUNE subscribers who respond to this email a
special corporate price of $1,995 to attend this two-day session.

Hosted by FORTUNE columnist and innovation strategist Professor Gary
Hamel, this benefit conference will feature a truly remarkable group of
leaders who will speak of the tasks at hand, and the strategies and
values that will allow companies to innovate and grow despite greater
adversity and volatility. You will experience two intense days of
discussion and problem solving with these confirmed speakers:

* MARC ANDREESSEN, Chairman and Co-founder, Loudcloud
* GORDON BETHUNE, Chairman and CEO, Continental Airlines
* AMBASSADOR JERRY BREMER, Chairman and CEO, Marsh Crisis Consulting;
and Former Chairman, National Commission on Terrorism
* STEVE CASE, Chairman, AOL Time Warner
* ELAINE CHAO, Secretary of Labor, USA
* RODNEY CHASE, Managing Director and Deputy CEO, BP
* MICHAEL DELL, Chairman and CEO, Dell Computer
* PATRICK DIXON, Chairman, Global Change Ltd.
