I think this needs to be experimentally tested.  I don't think we really know 
whether people at large would want to have this hurdle in place.  Personally, 
I'm conflicted about it.  I think I want to see one line about everything 
that arrives, with whitelist items highlighted and probable spam highlighted 
for one-click purging of my inbox.  Eudora can already do this sort of thing, 
it's just a matter of setting it up.  Unfortunately I use Kmail, which has 
excellent filter technology, but doesn't have enough options for simply 
flagging messages in the inbox.

I've thought about it because I have a friend who is working on a client-side 
Outlook plugin that implements the auto-reply and whitelist system.
