But Shelley wasn't a scientist. She was an author. An
artist. Responsibility, so self-evidentially requisite
for we engineers and scientists that even Hammurabi put
a building code into his laws, may be too confining a
cage for the artist. If nothing else, this requires a
theory of responsible art. Plato had such a theory, but
frankly it seemed one of his poorer ideas, and I don't
know that it has improved any since.
