LOL -- good analogy! however, i would say that it
isn't quite true: an ex-smoker who is both smart
and honest can write a penetrating and insightful
book about smoking. in fact, this has already
happened: richard klein's *cigarettes are sublime*.
(on a side note, i would strongly recommend this
book to smokers and non-smokers alike. very subtle
and well-done. klein, a prof. [i think of french
lit. but i'm not sure] at cornell, if i remember
correctly, wrote this book to try to understand
smoking, while he was in the process of quitting
smoking.)
(on a second side note, i've been on FORK for
about a month or two now, but this is my first
post. i feel like a member of this community,
despite the fact that you all are only now
learning of my existence:-)
