Funny that this has come up today. I just read an interview with Matt
Groening yesterday where he uses and explains the term. I'd never
heard it before but I love it.

Note that the article erroneously quotes Groening as saying that the
show is near it's end. Just today he has rebuked the article and says
the Simpsons will continue for a long time and "continue to make
millions for Rupert Murdoch".
