What utter bullshit. The US's primary foreign
policy effort in Colombia, for decades, has been
a predictably futile effort to staunch the
supply of cocaine using military force and
herbicides, IN TOTAL DISREGARD for what this has
done to Colombia. The pretense that this was done
to help the Colombian people is hypocrisy of the
vilest and rankest order.

The Colombian drug cartels are today's Capone
mob, and as with Capone, their true umbilical
cord is to the drug warriors who create the
economic environment that gives them birth. Here
is how it works. A drug war creates high profit
margins for the substances whose traffic is
banned. This creates criminal organizations that
maintain and battle over distribution channels.
Because they work outside the law, they use
violence to resolve disputes, and they focus on
delivering the most potent and addictive
product for the dollar. Dupes in the media
blame the evil druggies and drug dealers for this
environment, while exculpating the drug warriors.
This creates public support for the drug war,
which allows its continuance, to the benefit of
both the drug warriors and the narco-terrorists.
Those in the front lines of the drug war, after
some years or decades, realize the futility of
their effort, and are corrupted by the other
side. The line between drug warrior and narco-
terrorist is a thin one on the front lines.
This is the way it has worked for the last three
decades, and the way it STILL works. Stupidity
is doing the same thing, and expecting a different
result. If you want to keep the money flowing to
the narco-terrorists, support the war on drugs.
