IEEE 1394 is a lousy interconnect for clustering (though Oracle has
released their clustering libs and there's TCP/IP over IEEE 1394)  
latency-wise. Stick with Fast Ethernet.

VIA processors have a lousy numerics performance. If you only do memory 
and disk bound stuff you'll be fine, though.
