The problem wih IRC and ims are the vrey essence of flow. Lists flow in
object of ideas, chunks of thoughts formed rough hewn into , sometimes,
meaningfull pieces of a thread.

IRC and the like are not so good at that, they are sound bytes, quick bits
off and away on the winds. Lists retain and thus the bits form a bigger
whole.

For stuff like making dinner plans or liasons of passion where archived
threads are not needed or wanted IRc is great.
