It is.  Even simple things like the Ideal Gas laws (e.g. PV=nRT) require
constants ("R") that do not have immediately obvious relevance to a n00b.  You
start talking things like solubility and there is no way to make it non-ugly.

But...

If we were good enough at chemistry for it to be elegant, we'd call it
"physics".

Which is one of the many reasons I opted to find work doing something other than
chemical engineering.
