I set up my own; it's no harder than installing Gaim or Kopete.
According to <http://www.jabber.org/user/publicservers.php>, there are
at least a few dozen public servers available with AIM gateways.

Business users in particular can and should be running their own IM
servers.  I know a lot of companies are using AIM, but that makes as
little sense as having all your employees get a Hotmail account.
