I heard a reasonable explanation recently -- in Europe, cars are often
taxed based on the size of their engines. In the US, they're not -- so a
big engine does not increase the cost appreciably by comparison. So, hey,
might as well buy a tank.
Although the $90K tax credit if you buy an SUV helps, too, I'd say.
