FoRK'd in case the original site goes down, as it is destined to do.

This is a FAQ about the original show(s), not the smart-ass

INTRODUCTION TO SPACE GHOST

1.1 Who is Space Ghost?

Space Ghost is a superhero created by Alex Toth for a Hanna-Barbera
cartoon show that ran on CBS from 1966-1968. Based on the Ghost Planet,
Space Ghost is an interstellar police officer.

1.2 What is Space Ghost's costume like?

Space Ghost's costume is a white bodysuit, black hood, yellow cape, belt
with red buckle, silhouette of hood on red triangle on chest, and red
wristbands with yellow buttons.

1.3 What are Space Ghost's super powers?

Space Ghost's powers come directly from his costume and power bands.
These are the powers of the costume and power bands that I have seen in
the original episodes.

Costume: belt which has "inviso button" that renders him invisible and
also generates a protective force field around him, communicator located
in silhouette on chest, viso penetron beam (from eyes), the power of
flight, the ability to survive underwater, and protection from outer
space. Space Ghost also has the power of teleportation. By concentrating
and focusing all of his will Space Ghost can change each atom of his
being to pure thought and energy and teleport to another location and
reassemble himself.

Power Bands: reversing force ray, hypno force will power, destroyer ray,
force ray, super power, destructo ray, pile driver ray, energy force,
stun ray, heat force, megaton force, magna ray, heat ray, freeze ray,
freeze force, heat intensifier ray, sonic vibro ray, whip ray, frost
ray, freeze field, scatter ray, power rays, anti-matter ray, electro
shock ray, battering ram ray, locking ray, hammer ray, megatron ray,
energy ray, magnetic ray, laser beam, ice force field, force shield,
force field, viso wall, super speed, hyperspeed, and the ability to
create a time warp. These are combined powers from the power bands: heat
and energy ray, force field and energy power, stun ray and force energy
power, raising the power to 5 over 5.

1.4 How does Space Ghost get around?
Space Ghost either uses his super powers from the costume to fly or he
uses his spaceship "The Phantom Cruiser/Ghost Ship". Space Ghost is able
to fly faster than the "Phantom Cruiser/Ghost Ship" with just his
costume and power bands. "The Phantom Cruiser/Ghost Ship" is capable or
reaching hyperspeeds. "The Phantom Cruiser/Ghost Ship" has several
weapons: freeze mist, inviso power, heat ray, cold ray, stun ray,
electro shock force field, and energy force. "The Phantom Cruiser/Ghost
Ship" is also able to track a wide variety of frequencies through space,
it has a "revitalizer" unit to repair damages, and is equipped with a
radionic "interference" screen to filter out energy being directed at
the ship's occupants. "The Phantom Cruiser/Ghost Ship" is also equipped
with heat seeking missiles.

1.5 Where is Space Ghost's home?

It is assumed that Space Ghost's original home world was Earth. Space
Ghost now lives on the Ghost Planet. The Ghost Planet is located between
Earth and the rest of Space Ghost's patrol sector. The Ghost Planet
Headquarters has living quarters, a vast communication and sensor room,
a storage facility, and a hangar for the Phantom Cruiser. The Ghost
Planet Headquarters has a defensive force shield and generates power
from the interior of the planet.

1.6 What does Space Ghost look like without his mask on?

I have found out that Alex Toth drew these pictures of Space Ghost
without his mask on. These pictures are taken from a model sheet that he
drew while designing Space Ghost. These pictures can be found in Toon
Magazine Volume 1, Number 3, 1994. This issue also has pictures of early
designs of Space Ghost. One included Space Ghost with a gun and holster
and no power bands.
(Thanks to Todd Marsh for this information.)

1.7 Why should I be interested in Space Ghost?

Like any popular super hero, Space Ghost has withstood the test of time.
He has great powers, great allies, great villains, and a great ship.
This makes for interesting stories and a great time.

SPACE GHOST'S HISTORY

2.1 What is Space Ghost's origin?

I have researched through books, comics, and all the TV cartoon shows
and I cannot find any indication of Space Ghost's origin. One book
speculated that he was either a scientist who invented this great
costume and power bands, or he was given the costume by the galactic patrol.

THE 1966 CARTOON SHOW

4.1 What was the show about?

The show was about Space Ghost an interstellar police officer that
patrols a certain area of space with his allies Jace, Jan, and Blip.
Each week they had two eight minute episodes with which to save the
universe.

4.2 When did the show premiere and how long did it last?

The half-hour show premiered on CBS Saturday, September 10, 1966. The
show lasted until September 7, 1968. After this it was re-released in
other shows.

Saturday morning schedule for 1966
Saturday morning schedule for 1967

Saturday morning schedule for 1968

4.3 How many original episodes of Space Ghost were there?

There were 42 original episodes of Space Ghost.

Some interesting information from Bob about the 1967 season.

There are indeed only 18 episodes of Dino Boy - not 21 - which makes
sense because there were only 36 original Space Ghost cartoons (18 x 2)
created for the 1966 season.

The total number of Space Ghost episodes increased to 42 in the fall of
1967 when CBS asked Hanna-Barbera to produce a special six-part episode
to kick off the new 1967 Saturday morning line-up. This would be the
famous six-part "Council of Doom" storyline, which included guest
appearances by Mightor, Moby Dick, the Herculoids and Shazzan.

It was a well thought out cross-promotion tactic. CBS used the special
six-part Space Ghost cartoon to introduce viewers to the newer (and
unfamiliar) Hanna-Barbera superheroes that were set to debut that day as
part of CBS' new Saturday morning schedule, to get the viewers "hooked,"
and make them want to tune in to sample the new shows.

In this special Space Ghost six-parter, the first three episodes: 1.)
"The Meeting", 2.) "Clutches of the Creature King" and 3.) "The Deadly
Trap" aired the first week of the new 1967 season. On that day, there
was no Dino Boy cartoon.

The concluding episodes: 4.) "The Molten Monsters of Moltar", 5.) "Two
Faces of Doom" and 6.) "The Final Encounter" aired the second week of
the new 1967 season. Again, there was no Dino Boy cartoon.

Synopsis

Chapter One-An Alarming Discovery
Jan is searching The Ghost Planet for brilia stones to make a mosaic.
Jan and Blip find a shiny sphere. A voice inside the sphere tells Jan to
place it in water. The sphere dissolves and is formed into a Queen. The
Queen tells Jan she was exiled from her home world by conquerors. She
places a mark on Jan's hand that will cause Jan to ever-sleep if she
doesn't convince Space Ghost that Queen Satanari is good and not a
sorceress. Space Ghost agrees to return her to Cyba-3 in the Flarex Galaxy.
Chapter Two-Journey to Cyba-3
Jace notices that Jan is uneasy and questions her. Space Ghost asks
questions to Queen Satanari. Space Ghost has already contacted Cyba-3
and the inhabitants tell him what kind of government they have on the
planet. Queen Satanari tells Space Ghost these people are the Imitators.
They assume the looks of the people they have conquered.
Chapter Three-A Warning to Jan
Queen Satanari tells Space Ghost, Jace, and Jan her hopes and plans once
they reach Cyba-3. As they reach the planet someone fires at the Phantom
Cruiser. Queen Satanari tells Jan the lasers came from her own secret
castle and fired automatically. Jan tries to tell Space Ghost and Jace
about Queen Satanari but she begins having pains in her hand. Queen
Satanari gets off the Phantom Cruiser and they leave her there.
Chapter Four-Decisive Return
As they leave Cyba-3 Jace notices the mark on Jan's hand. She tells Jace
and Space Ghost it is nothing. Jan later on convinces Space Ghost to go
back to Cyba-3 to check on Queen Satanari.
Chapter Five-A Warm Welcome
Space Ghost receives permission to land on Cyba-3. One of the leaders
shows Space Ghost the devastation of a previous war. Onar Honn, a member
of the central council shows Space Ghost, Jace, and Jan a history record
of the recent fire that destroyed the city. Onar tells of how the
Sorceress arrived on the planet in space debris and used the planet's
technology to build her fortress and weapons. Jan tells Space Ghost and
Jace everything she knows about the Sorceress. The mark on her hand did
not kill her because it was only a hypnotic device.
Chapter Six-Satanari's Stronghold
Queen Satanari finds her stronghold just as she left it. The Cybans did
not destroy her arsenal. Her mountain creature army is still there
working on weapons. The mountain creatures had continued to build the
Spidrex. Queen Satanari inspected the Spidrex and was very pleased. The
Phantom Cruiser arrives and is fired upon by lasers. Space Ghost puts
the ship on inviso power and they land.
Chapter Seven-The Twins are Captured
Space Ghost, Jace, and Jan are attempting to enter the fortress on
inviso power. There is a counter frequency force that nullifies inviso
power outside the fortress. The twins are captured. Queen Satanari warns
Space Ghost if her tries to interfere she will kill the twins. Space
Ghost cannot blast his way in so he teleports into the fortress. Queen
Satanari places shrinking chains on Jace and Jan. Any attempt to take
them off will crush the twins.
Chapter Eight-The Spider Machine
The giant Spidrex leaves the fortress with Space Ghost close behind. The
machine enters a small village of Cyba-3 and the citizens run in fear.
Space Ghost regains his inviso power. The Spidrex is shooting out a web
of fire on the city. Queen Satanari roars in victory to all the former
wizards of the past about her revenge. The Cyban firefighters try to get
the fire under control.
Chapter Nine-Space Ghost Acts
Space Ghost flies into the atmosphere to try and make it rain. Switching
from heat force to cold force he causes storm clouds to appear. The
twins discuss how to escape from Queen Satanari. Space Ghost tells the
city leaders not to attack the Spidrex.
Chapter Ten-A Clever Ruse
Space Ghost attacks the Spidrex. He offers himself as a prisoner to
Queen Satanari for the release of Jace and Jan. Queen Satanari attempts
to chain Space Ghost with the shrinking chains, but Space Ghost turns on
his inviso power and places the chains on Queen Satanari. Space Ghost
tricks Queen Satanari into releasing the twins.
Chapter Eleven-The Sorceress is Sentenced
Queen Satanari is brought before the council for sentencing. The council
debates on whether to kill Queen Satanari. Space Ghost suggests exiling
her again. The council changes Queen Satanari into a shiny white sphere
again. Space Ghost seals the sphere in an asteroid that will not come in
contact with any planet for 175 million years.

The Original Space Ghost FAQ
A must read. This page is devoted to the old school Ghost: The 60's and
80's action series. 32 pages printed! Very comprehensive. It is not
without it's flaws, though: it steals images and sometimes uses
much-easier-to-find GPI pics rather than grabs from the old episodes.
However, the information is sound. Lots of pictures of everything.

My Rebuttal:
It is not my intention to steal pictures from others. If you find a
picture that is an original from your site and do not want it on my
page, please let me know. I have tried to give credit where credit is
due. If I have used a picture from your site, I have added a link to
your webpage hopefully giving you more visitors to your site. Over a
hundred people a week enjoy this site and some of your pictures makes
that possible. I am no computer whiz. I only use these pictures for
others enjoyment. I have never meant to offend anyone with other
webpages on the internet.
