Many MANY people have been pushing the solution for years, including
myself and a dozen other FoRKers... but it can never happen.

The whole point of email is that you can talk to people, anyone,
without having to meet them first, or exchange elaborate data sets.
Which is also why it's now completely useless. IM is a walled community
with very low walls, but walls high enough to require extraordinary
efforts to write software like Fire to talk all the talks. IM kinda
sucks, it's intrusive, unreliable, and the wall is still low enough you
get spammed. The higher the wall, the closer you get to talking only to
yourself.

The problem is communication. You can't solve the problem, because the
solution is the problem. It's not a tech problem, it's a human one. You
can only put so many people inside the wall, before all hell breaks
loose. And that number is well under 1K, a bit less then the 6.3B
needed.

The only thing you can possibly hope for is a way to remove the idiots
from the system, offline them. But AOL is still in business, so that
idea is shot.

Ah for the good old days... when only a lvl 3 technomage could even get
online...
