Different markets. Oil has a pretty smooth global
market. Prices in NY aren't that different from
prices in Europe. Hundreds of tankers make sure
of that.

The global gas market is still in development. US
gas prices are significantly higher than world gas
prices. The problem is that natural gas has to be
chilled to liquid, transported in pressurized
containers, and regasified in special terminals.
The US now has only four of these. More will be
needed to keep US gas prices reasonable, since
North American supplies are dwindling. There is
considerable interest in building more terminals.
Government and utility companies want them
built. Local activists want them not in their
backyard, except in Louisiana, where everyone
thinks its a fine idea.
