Herabouts about 2/3rd of fuel cost are tax. All of this goes
into the common pot and is absorbed by the deficit hole, instead of
being allocated to public transport and R&D for renewable only.
Recently instituted highway tolls (just for trucks, for time being)
are not being allocated just for the infrastrcture, either.
Using dynamic taxes for a smooth fossil fuel price ratchet (only up,
never down, but slowly and smoothly) is the only thing which
will make the vehicles more efficient and promote radical alternatives
long-term (pure EV and direct methanol fuel cell vehicles).
