Blood Meridian was one of the best books I've read, although
I can appreciate why some people get turned off by the mayhem.
Judge Holden is one of the greatest characters in literature.

Me too, though I'm not American. The last, No Country for Old Men, blew 
me away and the Crossing earlier did as well. For a real hoot reading 
dialogue, Elmore Leonard.
