And why the farmers? The shrimpers don't get any subsidies, and they live
every bit as much on the edge, suffering today from the rising price of
diesel, and cheap imports. Farming, though, has a more romantic place in
Americans' hearts, and therefore greater string to legislative action,
than fishing and shrimping and other industries. The first picture below
is a shrimper returning to port. The second shows the working end of the
shrimp boat docked behind Jane's fish house, on Cooper's Alley L-head,
Corpus Christi.
