In the recent past fringe nut jobs have been setting
the agenda. They shout the loudest, and make headlines
with their bombs and manifestos. They force even
moderates to take a position on the fringes,
polarizing the masses.

The Internet in particular with it's niche mailing
lists and discussion groups, provides a forum for a
diversity of dissenting opinions. The balkanizing
force of the Internet is an antidote to polarization.
