it does not take James Burke to show the threads of one with the
other, in fact how religious power structures created , by direct plan
or reaction, our current political systems.

Consider, the last US election was largely about religious issues
(abortion, jesus ordaining bush to be pres, etc etc)

Consider that while many Americans would find Sharia law odd  they
spend a large amount of time making religious decisions within the
american legal system (praying in secular schools,   the rights of a
women to decide on her own health vs that of gods law, what religious
topics are taught in secular schools, what are "approved" religious
holidays , whether Wiccan symbols can appear on the graves of dead
American soldiers who were Wiccan, can scientists do reasearch on
sstem cells harvested from embryos,  etc etc etc etc)
