It's true: We make stories (and knowledge and meaning that come
with them) in our own minds, by our own thinking.
But "does not come from any external source" doesn't seem quite
right either -- Thomas Dalton helped you learn about atoms,
Jesus Christ your sense of ethics, and American revolutionaries your
sense of politics.
The reality, I believe, is that the world & society (sometimes
abbreviated "G", "O", "D,") is the origin of our stories, and thus
**the world and society is the origin of our meaning.**
*Just like:* The scientific society is the origin of our knowledge.
Our own *recreation* of science in our own head, ("learning what has
been discovered,") is due to us. And our own recreation of our societies
stories, ("learning what has been discovered,") is due to us.
But those stories come from an external source.
Jesus Christ said to "Look inside yourself. Anyone telling you to
look outside yourself is deceiving you."
And he's absolutely correct. We can't look to other people for
the answers.
** So how do we resolve this? **
That is my question.
And once we've resolved it, how do we express it to ourselves,
and to others, so that we can share a healthy story?
