OK: I have some new clarity now.
I am a particular type of person. I have reasons for choosing FoRK
to talk, but I *do* perceive myself to be something of a stretch
for FoRK.
I'd like to call upon the diversity of FoRK, to help me find a
place where I *should* go. I'm sure some of you will know some
good places, and I'm sure many of you will know some great
smart-ass responses to this as well. ;)
Here's my profile; Will you help me find a home?
Another possibility is to start... ...FoLK?
These are some of the ideas I like to contribute:
* Evolutionary spirituality:
Living spiritually while also living & thinking COMPLETELY
naturalistically.
Pretty artworks, songs, living with community, activist works for
the health of everyone, personal reflection and transformation,
reverence for the Earth and the Universe, -- all within complete
authenticity with what we understand from science.
* ...what I observe in movies, and how it relates to the Zeitgeist:
(NOT the movie "Zeitgeist," which I know very little about --
isn't it some sort of 9-11 conspiracy movie? Rather, I mean in
terms of Hegel.)
- Bee Movie (environment, self & whole,)
- Happy Feet (heartsong, evolution, media, environment, race, semantics,)
- Enchanted (heart, realism, liberalism, morality, semantics,)
- The Matrix (simulation, semantics, philosophy,)
- Midnight at the Museum (heart, evolution, history,)
Video games too, where applicable.
(Metal Gear, for example, has a lot to say. But what about in
the games that I'm *not* playing?)
* ...motions I observe in activist communities, that I hang out with,
and how I see it connecting or, (as is sadly often the case,) NOT
connecting.
* Technical weirdness. Architecture, protocol, language, and design
ideas.
* Speculative visions of humanities future.
Some of the questions I like to ask:
* Am I just bonkers? (That is: I thrive on criticism. BUT, I get
to respond to the criticism, too. Ad hominum can't work.)
* How *does* or *can* Evolutionary Spirituality ideas "work?" Or
it is impossible for it to work? (Or is it possible, but it
SHOULDN'T work?) If so, why, and where do we go from there? Can
we live within the protocols of existing religions? (Similar to
technologist idea of: "Join an existing project, don't start a
new one, unless you really have to.)
* How is technology transforming us, psychologically, (which is to
say, "spiritually," in my lexicon,) socially, and as people
living on the Earth?
* Who's interested in working on technologies to help in the social
evolution of humanity? Who can support these with blog posts,
testing, networking, and s on? Tools to identify zeitgeists,
news story tracking, new journalism, participatory democracy,
communication between large #'s of people and small teams in
motion, history visualization, ambient technology, etc., etc.,
etc., etc.,.
* How can we convince activists to work openly, like Open Source
projects do? Open Source wouldn't work at all, if it operated
like activist communities do-- all phone calls, secret mailing
lists, private by default, etc.,. How can I convince activist
organizations to learn Open Source methods? What do activists
believe they are hiding from?
Why I talk, rather than write:
* I don't know how to write articles.
I've seen good articles, and I've seen what I write, and "that
ain't it."
* ...but I know how to hold a conversation.
* I like to be able to hear criticism from people who I can also
get clarification from. ("What do you mean when you say...") I
see conversation as a collaborative process. Much less so,
article writing and publishing.
I like this crowd because:
* It's diverse.
* It's eclectic.
* It's technical.
* It's smart.
* It's powerful.
* It's radical.
* It cares for the Earth.
* It cares for the life of the Spir-xxx (stamp that out)
It cares for the life of the imagination.
* It supports "cross-domain" conversations, that aren't tied to one
particular subject, or another particular subject, but is okay
with going in fairly deep into subjects as needed.
-- that is, it's just a freakin' smart group.
...and perhaps most importantly:
* IT'S FULL OF PEOPLE WHO DISAGREE WITH ME.
What fun is it to talk with people who already agree with you?
What creative friction is there? How do ideas evolve and develop
in that sort of atmosphere?
So, ...
* Any ideas where I should go?
* Or should I just make "FoLK?"
* Or should I learn some sort of "adaption pattern" for FoRK?
Keep in mind that I have **a lot** to say, and this can rub
Tom wrong, and I totally value him as a member in this
community. "He was here first" and all. But I'm not interested
in "just asking a crucial question here or there." Wherever
I go, it's going to be hard to shut me up. ;) I just have lots
to say and talk about.
Take care,
Lion =^_^=
