When I was a kid, my father let me shoot his gun a few times at my
grandma's house (out in the country near Harlingen). The first time I
heard gunfire in a city was in Pasadena, and I didn't recognize it. I
was shocked when I notice a couple of cops running up the street and
when it sunk in that omg it was a *gun* I was freaked out. I never
looked at city streets the same way again...  I hope Portland is a
reasonably safe city.
