It might be worthwhile to point out that "a foolish consistency"
refers to a tendency to reduce any situation to a simpler, familiar
context. So it becomes quite obvious that *consistency* over
increasing context is increasingly ineffective, in contrast with
*coherence* over increasing context which is increasingly effective.
In general, coherence is preferable to consistency.
This maps quite nicely onto Bayes Theorem. I'd be very interested in
knowing how a devout Christian would deal with Bayes. [Quick google
didn't turn up anything relevant.]
